Hot Rolled Asphalt Surfacing
As Asphalt Specialists, We provide Hot Rolled Asphalt laying services which are ideal for surfacing major roads. With predominantly a sand based bituminous mix with a wide range of uses from rural and National Roads to car parks and urban streets, Hot rolled asphalt makes a perfect product for producing large areas of flat ground.
At Border Surfacing we provide up to 3 types of hot asphalt road laying depending on the end use of the product. Each is layered with the same care and attention but at different thickness and strengths.
- Motorway and National Routes and other such heavily trafficked sites
- 35% 0/14 with 20mm pre-coated chippings : mixture used in UK roads
- High stone content mixes : 55% 0/10 or 55% 0/14 for lightly trafficked areas
- 60% 0/20 base course materials
- Sand asphalt: 0/3 used on bridge decks as a preventative measure against waterproofing damage.
Hot rolled Asphalt will provide a dense stiff, near impervious layer that resists compaction under traffic loading with a resistant surface by using pre-coated chippings with a high polished stone value, PSV as well as an even surface with strong durability.
Surface Dressing
To help strengthen a road or any surface, our Surface dressing is perfect to help keep a road in top condition. Surface dressing allows a road to retain its strength by helping to keep the road surface sealed from water that might seep in.
Using Bitumen in the form of an emulsion we spray the mixture on to the roads surface at an appropriate rate from the spray bar at the rear of a large tanker containing the bitumen emulsion. Chippings of an appropriate size are immediately applied to the bitumen by a large spreader which tows behind it a lorry containing the chippings.

Top Drive
Border Surfacing also offer Top Drive, unlike traditional Asphalt and Macadams that are now being tested to the limits as the number of vehicles with power steering increases, Top Drive is very durable and problems of point loading, softening and surface aggregate loss ar fretting are overcome.
Top Drive incorporates a special fibre additive as part of its mix design. This increases the viscosity of the binder and encourages a thicker bitumen film on each aggregate particle. This enhances mix durability, ensuring a cohesive tough surface and also inhibits bitumen oxidation resulting in a longer lasting textured black finish.
